Carryout Policy and Sick Trays |
Return to Meal Plans
UAF Dining Services is pleased to provide carryout options at our dining locations (also called “To Go Meals”). Our carryout program is centralized on providing more sustainable carryout options with the implementation of reusable carryout Eco-Containers.
Board Plan Carryout Meal Policy
Carryout privileges are made available to guests paying with a board plan to maximize the convenience and to maximize the total value of student meal plan programs. To minimize abuse and theft and make the program equitable to all students, the following policies are set in place.
Carryout Meal
A carryout meal shall consist of one of each of the following:
- Eco-Container or Eco-Friendly Disposable Carryout Container which may be filled with any item from the servery including desert items.
- Bowl which may be used for soup, cereal, or desert including soft serve ice cream*.
- Cup either a cold cup (16 oz.) or hot cup (12 oz.), or a customer-provided reusable beverage container of a reasonable size (e.g. a 32 oz. water bottle/16-20 oz. travel mug). Cups are for beverages only; cold cups may be used for soft serve ice cream as well.
At no point may a carryout meal be used to take excessive peripherals (e.g. condiments, toppings, utensils, etc.). Excessive would be anything beyond what a reasonable person would find appropriate to enjoy their current meal.
Food must be enclosed within the “to go” container. Food may not be carried on top of, or otherwise outside of the container, such as in handbags, pockets, backpacks, purses, etc.
Limitations
Students use one meal (card swipe) for each carryout meal taken.
Customer-Owned Containers
We encourage guests to bring their own reusable beverage containers as long as the container is of a reasonable size. For sanitation reasons however, only the Eco-Containers which have been cleaned and sanitized or disposable wares we provide may be used for food contents. This is to prevent potential cross-contamination and in compliance with State and Federal Food Safety Regulations.
Sick Trays
Our staff will be happy to assist you in accessing your meal plan when you're sick. The best thing you can do when you find yourself ill is to minimize contact with others so as to minimize the spread of contagious bacteria, get plenty of rest, exercise good hygiene, and of course, eat right!
Should you find yourself not feeling well, you should make arrangements to have someone else, such as a friend or RA pickup your food for you. First make arrangements to have a friend or RA pickup your food for you. When you know who will be collecting your food for you, just send us an email with the following information so that we can ensure you get your food without leaving the comfort of your room.
Please include in the email:
- Your name
- Student ID number
- What meal(s) you will send someone else to collect
- If you will be sick for an extended amount of time, you may be required to provide documentation such as a doctor's note. This is evaluated on a case-by-case circumstance.
- Send your email to dine@uafdining.com with the subject line "Sick Tray"
- Including the words "Sick Tray" will ensure that your email is routed to the proper recipients
- If you are emailing less than three (3) hours ahead of the meal you wish to have your friend or RA collect, please contact us at either 907-474-6823 or 907-474-6822 to ensure that your request is received.
Don't forget to check our online menu at www.uafdining.com so you can let the person picking up your food of any preferences you may have.
Should you have any problems please contact the Lola Tilly Commons at 474-6823.
Eco-Container Policy
The Eco-Container is available for purchase at all dining locations where carryout is available. The first container is provided at no charge to anyone on a semester meal plan, additional containers or replacements may be purchased at the replacement cost. The replacement cost of the Eco-Container is $4.50. If you do not have your eco-container we will provide an eco-friendly disposable container at a charge of $0.45
Persons not on a semester meal plan are encouraged to purchase an eco-container at the same replacement cost that is offered to meal plan participants. Persons not on a semester meal plan may only use their eco-containers in the campus retail operations.
Exchange
Used Eco-Containers will be exchanged free-of-charge at all dining locations for a clean and sanitized container. Guests must have a cleaned and sanitized Eco-Container; unwashed/sanitized containers may not be used nor can food be served in them due to the risk of cross-contamination.
Meal plan students who wish to free themselves of a dirty Eco-Container but do not wish to collect a new container may have it applied to their Polar Express Card at the Lola Tilly Commons or Wood Center Grill 155.
The student must present their ID card in order to receive an exchange as this will be the only proof that the Eco-Container was returned.
End-of-Semester Returns
We provided these containers in an effort to reduce our environmental footprint while providing a “to go” option and ask your participation in assisting us in meeting this goal. To meet our environmental sustainability goals, meal plan students may return their Eco-Containers at the end of the school year.
